Ingredients and spices that need to be Prepare to make Fish Curry (Fish Kuzhambu) 🐟:

  1. 1/2 kg Catla Fish
  2. 1/2 cup Chopped shallots
  3. 1 Medium size Tomato grounded
  4. 1 lemon size Tamarind(For Kerela style use Kodampuli)
  5. 2 Green Chillies
  6. leaves Few Curry
  7. 8 Garlic pods,crushed
  8. 1 Tbsp Fish curry Masala(any brand)
  9. 1 tsp Red Chilli Powder
  10. 1 tsp Coriander powder
  11. 1/2 tsp Turmeric powder
  12. 1 tsp Pepper Powder
  13. 1/2 tsp Mustard seeds
  14. 1/4 tsp Fenugreek seeds
  15. 1 cup fresh coconut milk
  16. 4 Tbsp Sesame Oil
  17. as required Rock Salt
  18. as needed Water
  19. leaves few Coriander

Instructions to make Fish Curry (Fish Kuzhambu) 🐟

  1. Wash and clean the fish pieces.
  2. In a vessel add 1/2 cupwater and tamarind and bring it to boil. Once it's cooked turn off the flame and allow it to cool. (If using Kodampuli you can soak it in hot water just 5 mins before adding and then add it to the curry without straining the tamarind).
  3. In a Mudpot add the tamarind extract,chopped shallots, chopped green chillies, ground tomato, crushed garlic, turmeric powder, fish curry masala powder, chilli powder, coriander powder, rock salt to taste, 2 tbsp of oil and water. (You can also skip fish curry Masala. And you can also use Kashmiri Chilli Powder for colour).
  4. Now turn on the flame and place the Mudpot. Once the curry starts boiling, cover and cook for 10mins in Medium Flame.
  5. After 10 mins add the Fish pieces and cook for 5 mins. If you cook the fish more than 5 mins fish pieces will break.
  6. Add coconut milk and bring it to boil. If needed add some more water. Atlast add pepper powder and coriander leaves. Turn off the flame.
  7. In another pan for tempering add 2 tbsp oil. Once oil gets heat add mustard seeds, fenugreek seeds and curry leaves. Fry it.
  8. Then add this mixture to the cooked Fish Curry.
  9. Serve it with hot Rice and Idlis.
  10. You can also add Raw mango pieces in step 3.
