I NEVER liked pilchards. My friend Anba made tin fish curry for my partner as he is from KZN thinking it would be a treat for him. She made more than enough for the both of us with a side of pap.   3. 7-10 Sliced Chilies
  4. 2 Large Tomatoes Grated
  5. 7 Curry Leaves
  6. 1 Bunch Chopped Coriander
  7. 1 Tsp Whole Biryani Mix
  8. 1 Star Anise
  9. 1 Cinnamon Stick
  10. 1 Bay Leaf
  11. 1 Whole Elachi
  12. 4 TBS Olive Oil
  13. 1/2 Tsp Cumin Powder
  14. 1/2 Tsp Coriander Powder
  15. 3/4 Tsp Tumeric
  16. 1 Boiled Potato
  17. 1 Tsp Garam Masala
  18. 2 Tsp Fish Masala or Masala of your choosing
  19. 1 Tsp Chilli Powder
  20. 3 Hard Boiled Eggs slices in two

Steps to make Tin Fish Curry

  1. First remove your fish from the can and clean them with a butter knife by removing the bones and guts and then gently scrape the skin off (the silver and black).
  2. Heat your oil and add your whole spices and leaves on a medium heat for 2 minutes.
  3. Add your onion and chilies till translucent.
  4. Add your fine spices and a low to medium heat for 3 minutes. Do not burn them else your curry will be bitter.
  5. Add your grated tomato and simmer for 10 minutes.
  6. Add the pilchards sauce and let it simmer for 15 minutes. Add a little bit of water if needed. Add salt to taste.
  7. Once it has simmered down, add your coriander and boiled potatoes and simmer for 5 minutes.
  8. Add your tin fish and stir very gently else your fish will completely break apart. Then add your eggs and do the same. Allow to cook for 5 minutes and you are all done 😋.
  9. Serve with either rice, roti or my absolute favourite PAP 😍😋.
